You feel perfectly prepared for an important performance. That's how I felt at the premiere of ‘Trans-Pass’. I was wearing a traditional Scottish outfit that had been lent to me for a duet. While I was in the middle of the choreography, I suddenly felt very cold. I realised that I was naked underneath because I was only wearing a jockstrap, no shorts underneath.
It was particularly uncomfortable in this piece, of all pieces, where there were lots of turns and upside-down movements.
My head was on autopilot and I tried not to stand out too much. After the applause, the stage manager came up to me and said with a wink: ‘Now we finally know what the Scotsman is wearing under his kilt!’
