What does a building site have to do with dance?
My inspiration comes from very different places.
I recently had an inspiration for a choreography in a very special place.
An excavator was shovelling geometric paths into the fields and meadows and excavating huge piles of earth.
These looked like oversized molehills.
Everything looked like a microcosm.
I see patterns of movement everywhere.
I see them in the rain on the window pane.
In the queue of people waiting at the station.
Some people think inspiration only comes in the dance studio.
But the best ideas?
I find them in everyday life.
In the leaves that the wind blows across the street.
In the hustle and bustle of the underground station.
In the way a child jumps into its first puddle.
Dance is everywhere.
You just have to open your eyes.
Suddenly the whole world becomes one beautiful choreography.
The most beautiful moment is when the ordinary suddenly becomes magical.
When a building site becomes a ballet.
