(with myself, because no one else asks)
Question: Do you see yourself as a writer who dances or a dancer who writes?
Answer: Yes.
Question: That's not an answer.
Answer: Yes, it is. Both. But above all: creative and reluctant to be pigeonholed.
Question: You've written a novel.
Answer: That's right. dancing falling flying.
Question: Sounds like instructions for failed pirouettes.
Answer: You could see it that way. But it's a declaration of love for life.
Question: How are sales going?
Answer: Let's put it this way: there's still room for improvement.
Question: In other words, no one is buying it?
Answer: In other words, yes, yes. But I'd like to see a few more copies fly off the shelves. Hence this charming conversation/soliloquy.
Question: What is so special about this book?
Answer: To quote Mary Poppins: It's supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. Wonderful, elegant, elegiac, sensual, honest – and damn well written, if I may say so myself.
Question: You may not. But do it anyway.
Give me five reasons why I should buy it.
Answer: Sure.
Love. In all its colours, forms and catastrophes. Several love stories at once, interwoven like... well, like dance.
Three generations, a century, 336 pages. Father-son drama included. Compact, but not compressed.
Dancing. With style, cool moves, sweaty T-shirts and the question: what remains when the body can no longer perform?
Paris and Berlin in 1989. Two cities, two worlds, a turning point in history. Period.
Falling and getting up. Anyone can fall down. Getting up, dusting yourself off, carrying on, continuing to love – that's the art. And maybe flying too. (No need to adjust your crown.)
Question: Is the book relevant to today's world?
Answer: Absolutely! Dealing with history, the repetition of social patterns, the question of the necessity of art – these issues are more relevant today than ever.
Question: So it's a political book?
Answer: It's a human book. But yes, it's also political. Because private matters are also political, among other things.
Question: Where can it be purchased?
Answer: In all well-stocked bookshops, online shops – or directly from me. With a signature and personal dedication. (Just write to: info@choreoart.net)
Question: So it's the perfect Christmas present?
Answer: Absolutely. And even more so for yourself.
Question: Thank you for talking to us.
Answer: You're welcome. It was my pleasure. (To interview myself so eloquently.)
Question: Modesty isn't your strong point, is it?
Answer: Yes, it is. But not today.
